Review - Dirty Tricks by Emma Hart

Title: Dirty Tricks
Series: Burke Brothers #4
Author: Emma Hart
Release Date: January 25, 2016

The sexiest, most mysterious Burke brother of all peels back his stage persona to reveal the real man—and the rock-hard body—behind the rockstar in the banging fourth book from New York Times bestselling author Emma Hart’s hot new adult series that began with Dirty Past, Dirty Secret, and Dirty Lies.

After witnessing an endless string of late nights, long tours, and eager groupies her world-famous father could never resist, Chelsey Young knows the dirty truth behind the glamorous façade of the rockstar life. Which is exactly why she takes hot as hell guitarist Kye Burke to bed when he decides he wants her.

One night. That’s how rockstars roll.

Unless your name is Kye Burke. The quietest of all his brothers, Kye’s style has never really been pumping and dumping, so pursuing Chelsey isn’t a hard choice for him. The hard part is keeping hold of the girl who’s hotter than the Sahara one minute then so cold even Antarctica wouldn’t touch her the next…despite the fact that they can’t stay away from each other.

The fact that he’s about to leave for L.A. to record the newest Dirty B. album doesn’t work in his favor, either. A long-distance relationship is the reason Chelsey’s parents divorced, and she’s sworn them off. Completely. Forever. No way.

Kye has two weeks to prove to Chelsey that he isn’t the kind of man her father is. She has two weeks to convince him that it’s never going to happen. But Kye didn’t get where he is by giving up…and even if it’s the fight of his life, there’s no way he’s giving Chelsey up.

We finally get the last Burke Brothers story --> Kye Burke… And boy, was he different from the rest of his brothers, but in a good way! Unlike his brothers, Kye has never been the kind to love and dump them. In reading his story, he's the one that has always thought about his actions first and what a breath of fresh air that was. I could tell he was the more emotional one and less "slutty" one.

The one night he shared with Chelsey has ruined other woman for him. Now all he has to do is make Chelsey see that if she would just give them a chance, they would be perfect for each other. I loved Kye's persistence and patience...now that is a man worth throwing out all your negative views out the window for!!!

Chelsey, on the other hand, thinks she knows Kye's type—different woman in every town, not the settling kind and so on—all because of her rock star father's actions. I so wanted to smack some common sense into Chelsey COUNTLESS.TIMES. Mainly because she was judging Kye on to his profession, and the way her father treated her and her mother.

Kye, the ever so patient Burke brother, made sure to show her how much she meant to him, how far he was willing go and what he was willing to do to show her he would never be like her father. It's true what they say…

"When the Burke boys love, they love with everything they have and are. When the Burke boys love, they love forever."

I’ve loved all the Burke Brothers but Kye has to be my Top Favorite One, hands down! I’m sad to see this series end but maybe, just maybe, Emma will surprise us with a novella on what the future has in store for these sexy rockers!

Since Dirty Secret, I've been impatiently waiting for Kye’s book. There was just something about the quiet, sexy guitarist that spoke to me. And while Dirty Tricks may not have been perfect, I still greatly enjoyed it…and fell even more in love with shy Kye.

After struggling a little—okay, a lot—with Dirty Lies, I went into this book with a fair bit of apprehension. I had high expectations for Kye and all I wanted was to hold onto my affection for him. And I did, most definitely. Although I occasionally found him to be a touch contradictory (and had hoped for more on his friendship with Sofie), I really loved him. He was sweet, kind and had one hell of sexy mouth on him. Add to that the gentle but persistent way he pursued Chelsey—so sure and true—and you've got a rock star that can bring you to your knees. He was an alpha with a soft center, a healthy ego and, apparently, an incredible cock. What more does a girl need?

However, I struggled a little with Chelsey. It's not that I didn't like her, because more often than not, I did. She was supposedly a bitch, but I didn't necessarily feel that…most of the time. But when she was a bitch? She was TOO much of one for my tastes. She went too far beyond sassy and fiery, which was the same concern I had with Jessie in the previous book, and she bordered on unlikeable. There were mentions of prior actions—justifications for calling her a bitch—that went unfulfilled, which left me questioning why she would act that way, and why anyone would forgive her for it.

I would also have liked to see Ms. Hart move away from some plot choices that echoed the previous books too greatly, and to move her explanation for the boys departure to earlier in the book so I didn't get quite so annoyed with them for not just sacking up and using their status to get their way—it was just a little too late for me to buy it completely. Beyond that, though, I thought she did an excellent job of giving foundation to Chelsey’s hurt from her relationship with her father, and justifying her behavior towards Kye as a consequence.

There were some truly fun and funny, sweet and sexy moments in Dirty Tricks. Mila was, as always, a total sweetheart and great comic relief. The banter between Chelsey and Kye was excellent and helped keep the book moving. The sexy times were panty-melting good. And the brothers? Well, they were delicious and I love them. Kye most of all.

And that ending. Perfect. As the final book—I assume—in this series (although…Leila, come on!), Ms. Hart did a fantastic job of updating us on all the Burke Brothers and the women they love, and it left my heart happy and soaring high. I do love to know that old favorites are in a good place—and this place? Couldn't have been better or more appropriate. And, in the end, that made my impatient wait for MY Kye worth it.

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies - usually wine - and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.

She likes to be busy - unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.
