Review - The Baller by Vi Keeland

Title: The Baller
Author: Vi Keeland
Release Date: January 18, 2016

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller, Vi Keeland, comes a sexy new novel.

The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.

Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Simple right?
Let’s face it. It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…
And this one is ours.

Ladies and gentlemen meet your new, sexy, charming, filthy mouthed book boyfr… – nah, you know what? I’m keeping this sexy Quarterback. Disregard what I was just about to say—I’m calling DIBS!!

Brody Easton (my love) has a reputation for not welcoming female reporters into the locker room. When he begins his first interview with Delilah Maddox by dropping his towel just as she asks her first question, it would seem that the rumors are true. Only, the intent may have been more playful than challenging—and it may not be Brody’s last attempt to throw Delilah off her game.

Delilah is no wilting violet, however. The bold move may have indeed thrown her off her game a bit, but it also just fueled her to come back stronger. When Brody changes his game from screwing with Delilah to wanting to screw her, she shuts him down hard. You see, Delilah’s not into players. And Brody? Is the ultimate player.

Only, the more time Delilah spends with Brody, the less he seems like a player and the more he seems like a real person. A real likeable person. A real, likeable, sexy person with a mouth that threatens to melt her panties clean off. She decides to give in to the physical attraction at the same time Brody decides to pursue the possibility of real feelings and what follows is a pretty spectacular thing.

This book was way more emotional than I was expecting! I expected the hilarious and adorable witty banter, and the lighthearted swoony feelings, and the super sexy hot times (though Brody’s filthy mouth was a wonderful surprise—did I mention how much I love dirty talkers?), but the emotional punches this book packed were unexpected, and they drew me so much deeper into the story. There was a little bit of unexpected suspense sort of cushioned in this emotionally intense background story and the result was that I was completely unable to put this book down. My heart was all over the place—and I loved every minute of it.

Brody was amazing (and don’t forget, I already called dibs) but more than once I was like “this Delilah chick, I really like her.” I liked how strong she was without ever being bitchy. I loved how she walked the line between her career and her relationship without freaking out about the boundaries. I appreciated her level-headedness and her willingness to trust. I love strong heroines, and Delilah was that perfect kind of strong-yet-human character to whom I completely warmed.

This book is…everything, honestly. I laughed, I got all leaky eyed with emotion, I swooned like crazy, and I fell super madly in love with my new book boyfriend. I have that slightly hung-over feeling that comes after you devour a book that has burrowed its way into your heart. A huge, HUGE winner for me!

Brody Easton. Player. Err, football player. He’s the Super Bowl MVP and can get any woman he wants. Until he sets his sights on Delilah Maddox. Delilah is the new on-air reporter for World Media Broadcasting. Brody is determined to get her to let down her guard, and to get her in his bed. Too bad Delilah doesn’t date players—well, actually she does date athletes, just not the other kind of player.

Delilah Maddox is the daughter of a football legend. She’s seen a lot of “plays” in her life. She’s not one to hop from bed to bed. She needs a connection—a relationship. She’s not willing to open her heart and settle for just any relationship either. She wants the happily ever after, really she does.

But what happens when the once upon a time and happily ever after are harder to achieve than initially thought? Can Brody change his ways and settle down? Will Delilah let Brody see behind her carefully guarded façade and let him inside her heart?

Wow. I just don’t know where to go with this… I LOVED this book. It’s so much deeper than the typical “athlete falls in love, girl plays hard to get and then they live happily ever after” book. Both Brody and Delilah are trying to move forward in their lives. Their past relationships have both of them building high walls to guard their hearts. And sometimes the past is really hard to let go. Both of them are a bit broken, and I found myself rooting for them to get it together and admit their true feelings.

The Baller is sexy, smart, fun, sad, uplifting, and romantic. Do not hesitate to One-Click!
