Review - Reaper's Fall by Joanna Wylde

Title: Reaper’s Fall
Series: Reapers MC #5
Author: Joanna Wylde
Release Date: November 10, 2015

The New York Times bestselling author of Reaper’s Stand is back in her “uber-alpha rough world of MCs” as one woman’s future is rocked by the man whose hardcore past could destroy her…

He never meant to hurt her.

Levi “Painter” Brooks was nothing before he joined the Reapers motorcycle club. The day he patched in, they became his brothers and his life. All they asked in return was a strong arm and unconditional loyalty—a loyalty that’s tested when he’s caught and sentenced to prison for a crime committed on their behalf.

Melanie Tucker may have had a rough start, but along the way she’s learned to fight for her future. She’s escaped from hell and started a new life, yet every night she dreams of a biker whose touch she can’t forget. It all started out so innocently—just a series of letters to a lonely man in prison. Friendly. Harmless. Safe.

Now Painter Brooks is coming home… and Melanie’s about to learn that there’s no room for innocence in the Reapers MC.

Love in all its forms….

A motorcycle club is not full of princes or princesses and that is never more in evidence than in this book and series. There is no sugar-coating it. Club members are there to support the clubhouse and must do whatever they are asked, no matter on which side of the law that may be. Saying that, though, the members are not completely bad either. When they love, they love hard, and each outing in this series showcases a couple in love, warts and all. And Levi Brooks, a painter by trade and in his heart, showcases the good and bad in his own unique style. And exactly why Melanie Tucker finds him so hard to resist…

“He smiled, pure sin on a stick. Or would that be sin with a stick? Heh.”

“Because he was sweet. I swear, my heart was melting even while I wanted to strangle him.”

There is sin and sex, laughter and tears, and plenty of turmoil in this outing of the Reapers MC story. The sizzle between Melanie and Painter is unmistakable and marks every interaction between them. They are good together but they also can’t seem to catch much of a break as Painter’s duty to the club interferes at almost every turn.

I really enjoyed both these characters as they each were so real. Melanie was young, though wise at the same time as she dealt with life head on, with sass and humor and a down to earth approach I couldn’t help but love. Painter, too, was someone I couldn’t resist—every inch of his sexy, artistic biker self. Yup, this bad boy has it all…

This is definitely not a fairy tale as they will have to fight to get their happily ever after, if that’s even possible…. I don’t doubt Painter’s devotion to Mel. His “Melanie’s Fantasy List” and his actions at every meeting, though, are at odds with the choices he makes. The choices that take him away from her. And even Melanie, who has loved him forever, has a hard time seeing their future together as the drama quotient just goes higher and higher.

Along with Mel and Painter, there are all the club members and their families supporting each other and providing a wonderful blend of love and craziness to the mix. This story had me guessing from start to oh, so satisfying finish with laughter and tears and tension swirling around in another “read until I’m done” marathon session. This should hold me over until the next one. Maybe.

A favorite quote…

“If you were a hooker, I’d pay full price for you, baby. And you know I don’t pay full price for anything.”
