Review - Rekindle the Flame by Kate Meader

Title: Rekindle the Flame
Series: Hot in Chicago #0.5
Author: Kate Meader
Release Date: November 30, 2015

Cuddle up by the fire with the irresistible prequel to Kate Meader’s smokin’ Hot in Chicago series—originally published in the sizzling holiday anthology Baby, It’s Cold Outside—a superhot e-novella that will warm you from your head to your heart and all the way to your toes!

Chicago firefighter Beck Rivera always knew his destiny would be defined by two things: his dream to follow in the footsteps of his legendary foster father Sean Dempsey and his teenage passion for heiress Darcy Cochrane, the one girl who could both stoke and cool his fire. Loving her meant setting her free and breaking her heart—and his. But when a chance reunion at his family’s bar, sparked by a drunk Santa, places her in his path again, destiny can no longer be denied.

The last thing heiress-turned-tattoo-artist Darcy Cochrane needs is the rollercoaster of emotion stirred up by her first love: sexy, gorgeous man-on-fire Beck Rivera. But he always had such talented hands. And more talented lips. And...maybe one time can’t hurt. Then she’ll send him packing like he did to her all those years ago. But Darcy and Beck soon discover that nothing ignites holiday flames like rekindling a lost love...

Oh, Kate Meader. You sure know how to write a man that’ll send a girl up in flames of love and lust and heat and argh….all the good things. Beck Rivera—I love you.

Following in his foster father’s footstep to join to CFD was a given for Beck Rivera. Holding on to his first love, Darcy Cochrane was…not. He let her go once, and now—thanks to drunken Christmas revelers—she’s back in his life, and boy, is she different.

This time, Beck’s going to hold on to his girl, no matter what. All he has to do is convince her to do the same.

HOLY HOT FIREFIGHTER, BATMAN! I’m convinced that Rekindle the Flame couldn’t be any better. It was novella perfection. Paced perfectly, chock full of swoony, sexy moments, characters that were loveable, likeable and absolutely the kind of people you want to hang with in real life, and a sweet, passionate second chance at love. ALL THE THINGS I ADORE.

Beck was take-me-now HOT, with his Spanish words and his need to have Darcy back in his life, and in his arms. I loved how he was with her—that he loved all her sides, not just the heiress Darcy, or the tattoo-artist Darcy. The complete package. She was sassy and talented, and fighting to be her own person, and I, along with Beck, found that to be a total turn-on.

The dynamics of the Dempsey siblings were on full display here, in this first outing in the Hot in Chicago series, and it was so much fun to see them prior to meeting the loves of their lives—I read this series a little out of order, but that’s cool. It’s easy to follow the story! This firefighting family is funny as hell (CPF—‘county property fuckable’, LMAO), strong and protective of each other, and full of advice (good and bad), which makes them all the more amazing.

I cannot get enough of this series. I NEED Wyatt’s book ASAP, because if there’s one thing I know, it’s that Ms. Meader is sure to give me another swoonworthy man to burn up for!
~ Review by Beth

Beck Rivera followed his dream to become a firefighter—following in the footsteps of his foster father, Sean Dempsey and foster brother, Logan. Throughout his teenage years, he had two passions: becoming a firefighter and Darcy Cochrane. Beck, determined that Darcy have the life she deserved, broke things off with Darcy right before he entered the fire academy. Saying goodbye nearly broke both of them.

Darcy Cochrane has avoided visiting home and Chicago for years. Now home only through the holidays, Darcy and Beck cross paths at his family’s bar—setting their feelings aflame again. After a one-night-no-holds-barred sex fest, both realize that one night wasn’t enough, but can the hurts of the past be put behind them in order to have the future they both want?

Man, oh man, am I a sucker for a second chance romance! Especially one that’s so damn good that I didn’t put it down until I read the whole thing! Beck and Darcy are two lost souls that, once they reunite, become whole. I FLOVED their backstory and how they have become the people they are now. Beck is always looking out for his “family” and Darcy is unbelievably strong, confident and independent. And holy smokes are they hot, hot, hot together! I cannot wait for Sparking the Fire—Wyatt’s book!

Review - Saving Grace by Kristen Proby

Title: Saving Grace
Series: Love Under the Big Sky #2.5
Author: Kristen Proby
Release Date: November 30, 2015

Sparks fly like snowflakes when a klutzy but gorgeous novice crosses skis with a hot resort owner in this tempting tie-in to New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby’s popular Love Under the Big Sky series!

Grace Douglas is on a practice run for her friend Cara Donovan’s bachelorette party ski weekend in Aspen. The problem is, despite living in rugged and picturesque Cunningham Falls, Montana, Grace is the clumsiest person ever born. To prepare for the trip, she is taking lessons at a local ski resort. She just prays that they have an ambulance on standby.

Sexy hotelier Jacob Berkley is ready to play ski instructor, but he quickly discovers that the best place on the mountain for Grace is in the lodge with a hot toddy. Her sense of humor and easy laugh quickly pull him in, and soon he’s determined to help her get off the bunny slope for a fun vacation with her friends. He just didn’t expect their steamy chemistry to trigger an avalanche of desire straight to his heart.

When Grace's friends send her on an overnight trip to get ski lessons, Grace is less than enthused. She's a known klutz and would much rather spend her day on the beach than risking life and limb on the ski slopes. One look at her hunky instructor changes her attitude entirely.

Jacob Baxter (Bax) is the billionaire owner of the ski Lodge where Grace is staying. He wasn't planning to give any ski lessons the day she showed up, but one look at her and he was more than happy to play the role. He is almost immediately smitten by her quirky, dorky personality and Grace is powerless against Bax's gentlemanly manners and irresistible English accent. What starts as a chore quickly becomes the most fun either of them has had in a long, long time.

This was a super short, super sweet story. Grace is truly a dork, and her bumbling goofy sense of humor had me chuckling out loud more than once. Bax is charming and authoritative without being overbearing. Their chemistry is immediate and hot. Like, hot hot. This story was like a perfect rich, decadent, ooey gooey brownie bite. Short, sweet, and just a little sinful.
~ Review by Shelly

If Jacob Berkley is what all ski instructors are like, I'm headed to the mountains. Don't call, don't message, and definitely don't worry about me. Pretty sure I'll be just fine...

Grace Douglas does NOT live up to her name. She's more likely to fall on her face, or end up incapacitated, than successfully learn to ski. And yet, she's going to try.

Enter Jacob Berkley. He's not just an instructor, he's also the sexily accented resort owner, and the man that has Grace heating up even in the cold, cold snow...

This one from Kristen Proby is an adorable little novella that won me over. I wasn't sure at first—Jacob's overuse of 'darling' was a touch grating to begin with—but I soon found myself immersed in Saving Grace

The banter was so much fun—and gave me a little throwback thrill as a fan of Ms. Proby's With Me In Seattle series. The characters were sexy and connected well *ahem* if you know what I mean. And the meet-cute confusion was a sweet set-up for this couple.

Saving Grace was ultra-fast and very lightweight. Exactly the kind of book you'd want to read by the fire in a snow lodge. After your lesson with Mr. Berkley, of course.

I am a HUGE Lisa Renee Jones fan. I loved the Inside Out series and this spinoff is STELLAR. From the very first page, Ms. Jones captured my attention and I couldn’t put it down. There is suspense, romance, mystery and unbelievably hot, sexy times in this book. You will question your memories of the snippets Ms. Jones gave her readers of Ella’s story throughout the Inside Out series—questions that will linger until Demand is released next May. May! OMG—I have to wait that long?! I don’t know if I can do it…

Review - Searching for You by Jennifer Probst

Title: Searching for You
Series: Searching For #2.5
Author: Jennifer Probst
Release Date: November 30, 2015

When a high-powered CEO and a playboy billionaire get stranded in a snowstorm, sparks will fly…if they can make it through the night together! This sexy enovella from Jennifer Probst’s heartwarming Searching For series—originally published in the sizzling anthology Baby, It’s Cold Outside—depicts an encounter almost too hot to handle.

Successful and determined executive Riley Fox has everything a modern woman could want…except for the love of her life. But she didn’t get to the top of her field without setting stringent expectations, and when it comes to finding a partner, she’s leaving nothing up to chance. Until her car breaks down in a blizzard, trapping her with the one man she’s always loathed and secretly crushed on: wealthy womanizer Dylan McCray.

Tired of his reputation as a ladies’ man, Dylan longs for a serious relationship with the woman of his dreams. Countless casual dates and hook-ups have left him with no idea what that gut-clenching moment of rightness feels like…until he rescues the stunning woman who has always tempted his fantasies. Will these staunch opposites repel rather than attract, or will sunrise bring everlasting romance after a steamy night in the snowy mountains?

Color me excited! I missed Searching for You when it was part of the Baby, It's Cold Outside anthology, but now it's releasing on its own…well, I had to have it. I mean, the Searching For series is one of my favorites, after all.

Riley Fox has been super successful professionally, and now, she wants the same for her personal life. Turning to Kinnections, the local match-making business, for help, she sets up her first date…only to get stranded in a snowstorm. With her enemy/crush, Dylan McCray, no less.

Having Riley land herself at his house with no means of escape wasn't what Dylan was expecting, but now she's there, he's going to work it to his advantage. After all, he been looking to curb his manwhore ways and settle down, but he's never felt the spark with anyone but his long-ago verbal sparring partner, Riley. They have one night together, trapped by the snow-bound mountains…can these two opposites attract, or will their spark start a fight and not a fire?

This was a quick, easy and incredibly sweet installment in the Searching For series. With just a brief cameo by the Kinnections crew, it focuses on two of their clients, and one hot night. And it's very, very hot. Hot enough to melt the snow that's keeping them indoors, me thinks. While I suspect a lot of people might be turned off by the instalove feel of this story—it's such a touchy subject for some—Ms. Probst did an excellent job of making Riley and Dylan’s connection feel genuine.

She built well on their backstory, and kept this quickie moving along at a good pace without clogging it down with needless backstory. I would have loved to see a little more of the main Searching For characters, and maybe a little extra to the ending to really round out the story, but all in all, this is a fine example of how to execute a playful, charming, engaging and romantic novella. And it's just cemented this series as one of my go-to’s. I'd love to see more of these types of Kinnections success stories in the future—and not just because I love this series so much I don't ever wanna see it end…

Before moving to southern Alabama, and before realizing my daughter was getting older and my life, devoted solely to her and my career, was in desperate need of change...I would've said that fate was a myth. Opening up to the possibility of needing more and admitting that loving someone could be worth risking my heart for capture, the chance I was taking only became clear after one look into his eyes...

I left that life behind and became a different man. One vigilant to keep others at arms length. One incapable of love. Letting someone in could prove dangerous, and could resurrect a past capable of killing us both. So why, after years of indifference to women or the possibility of more than a one night stand, would one look from her make me want to change it all..

Two souls lost to their pasts
Brought together by chance...
Torn apart by destiny...
