Review - One More Shot by Victoria Denault

Title: One More Shot
Series: Hometown Players #1
Author: Victoria Denault
Release Date: June 2, 2015

They say you only get one shot at making your dreams come true.

Jordan is determined to take two.

Drafted by the NHL at eighteen, Jordan Garrison was headed for fame, and there was only one person he wanted to share it with-Jessie Caplan. He was crazy in love with her, and had finally told her so. They shared an amazing night . . . and then everything fell apart.

Jessie tries not to think about the night she gave herself to Jordan-or how he broke her heart. She tries not to think about it, but she does. Especially now, when she's staring into his sky-blue eyes for the first time in six years. After so much time and torment, she can't tell if she loves him or hates him. But Jordan has learned enough to know a connection like theirs is rare. He was lucky to find Jessie once. No way will he lose her again.

A second chance for both of them…

Jordan Garrison is living his dream as an NHL hockey player. If he’s a bit of a man whore, well, that comes with the territory, doesn’t it?

Jessie Caplan tried not to care what he was up to as their time was long past but that hasn’t stopped her from wondering about him on a daily basis. They were together and then they weren’t, with both having different views on what actually happened.

Thrown together again years later, would this be the last time they ever see other or could they work it out?

“But sex with adult, experienced Jordan was just a heightened version of sex with young, barely experienced Jordan. Mind-blowing. No work, no awkwardness, just pure intense pleasure.”

This book was filled with everything I love – hunky hockey players, kick-butt women, and caring and supportiveness that surrounds both friends and family. I’ve read a number of books where the lovers’ story is intertwined with family and friends to the point where their story gets lost in the mix. This is definitely NOT the case here.

Jordy is a mix of cool confidence and endearing little boy as his emotions are all over the place when it comes to his life-long love. Jessie’s sense of family and love came from her sisters, and Jordy and his family. When things blew up between them all the relationships were in jeopardy.

Forced back together, it gives them both an opportunity to finally either resurrect their relationship or end it once and for all. Through flashbacks and switching points of view, you really get a sense of the happiness, and the hurt, that has brought them to this time. I couldn’t help but cheer them both on – they could do it!

There are a whole lot more hockey players – and sisters and brothers – introduced here so I hope that means there will be many more additions to this series.
