Kaleidoscope by Kristen Ashley was a wonderful read. It was sweet, sexy, real and inspiring. While it is the sixth book in Kristen Ashley’s Colorado Mountain series, it can be read as a standalone. The story follows Emmanuelle Holmes (Emme) & Jacob Decker (Deck), who reconnect after 9 years and learn to grow, love and live together. Honestly, their story touched my heart and stayed. Not only am I completely in lust with Deck, and want to be besties with Emme, but Emme and Deck together is absolutely beautiful.

Deck is most definitely a smoking hot “uber-alpha” mountain man, and Emme is the epitome of the girl next door. Both are refreshingly brilliant, and have a relationship based on not just lust and looks but mental attraction and mutual appreciation. The conversations, banter and basis of the relationship feels so completely real. Deck and Emme are human, not just characters.  It also doesn’t hurt that the chemistry is palpable, and oh so very hot.

While Kaleidoscope is very character centric, there is a fair amount of plot and intrigue. For fans of KA familiar with the Colorado Mountain series, the plot is in a similar vein to many of the previous stories. For readers who are not familiar with the stories, please read the books! I don’t want to give anything away, but it is an edge-of-your-seat, with mystery and secrets book. What I will say is that while it deals with a few heavier issues, it is beautifully written and the story is wonderfully crafted. I especially loved how the namesake kaleidoscope actually was a focal point and carried meaning throughout the story.

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.  And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.
