Blog Tour - Jake Undone by Penelope Ward

Title: Jake Undone

Author: Penelope Ward

Release Date: October 20, 2013

Nina Kennedy was alive…but not living…until she met him.

Planes, trains, heights…you name it, Nina was afraid of it and led a sheltered life ruled by irrational fears and phobias. When she moves to Brooklyn for nursing school, that life is turned upside down, as she develops an intense but unwanted attraction to her gorgeous roommate, who’s pierced, tattooed and just happens to be the smartest person she’s ever met.

Behind Jake Green’s rough exterior and devilish smile, lies a heart of gold. He makes it his mission to change Nina’s outlook on life. When he agrees to tutor her, they forge a bet and the stakes are high as Jake forces Nina to face her demons. He just wasn’t expecting to fall hard for her in the process.

What Nina doesn’t realize, is that Jake has been living his own private hell. Once he drops a bombshell, will their love survive it?

Told in two parts from both Nina and Jake’s points of view, Jake Undone is a standalone story and a companion to the novel, Gemini.

4.5 stars*** Jake Green How I'd like to Undress You!
This book portrays exactly what the title infers. Jake Green has only been existing until he meets Nina then the unraveling begins. Both these characters are beautifully flawed. Both hell bent on helping the other grow whilst also struggling to grow together. Penelope Ward's writing is a true joy to read. The story is told in dual POV's but in a different manner. The first part is solely Nina and the second part Jake. I loved this split in POV rather than the back and forthness which can get confusing or repetitive. This separation was spectacularly done and carries on with the same flow.

The Prologue is told Six Years prior by Jake, who is an adorable heartmelting Uncle to his sister’s twins and an overwhelmed college student. We are briefly introduced to Jake whilst his eye’s are set on a girl named Ivy, then jump forward and we flip to Nina’s POV. You are left wondering What? Who? But Ms. Ward does a fantastic job deterring these thoughts in the prologue by grabbing and centering your focus on all things Jake Green, the “hot womanizing roommate.”
Nina is a nursing student who moves into an apartment with her childhood friend Ryan, that is close to school’s campus. We learn very early on that Nina is like a baby bird who prefers to stay in her nest of “comfortability”. She has many irrational fears and is not yet ready to fly and conquer these fears. Fears she lets dictate the way she approaches life, such as instead of taking the subway she takes a taxi, instead of an elevator she takes the stairs.  A childhood incident, not an extreme trauma, triggers these fears.

She moves into the apartment knowing she’d have 3 roommates but nothing could have prepared her for the walking contradiction that is Jake Green. He gives Nina the push she needs to leave the nest and to fly out of her comfort zone and face her fears head on.
Let me introduce to you to a new book boyfriend that will swoon you, spoon you and seize you - Jake Green

Jake Udone

He has a talent for yanking people’s chains and is a complete sexual innuendo deliverer. He is your stereotypical yummy bad boy. Tatted, pierced, mysteriously intriguing, with a banana eating fetish but at same time ridiculously intelligent with a heart as large as Asia. He helps Nina with more than burying her fears, he helps her excel in her worst subject, Math. He is an amazing brother, uncle, tutor and friend and will sacrifice his happiness for those he loves. He is more than the jokester he is and has depth.
“Sometimes if you are willing to withstand a little pain in life, Nina, you might discover a pleasure that you never would have otherwise known existed.”
Jake has his own set of fears however. Unlike Nina he evades confessing them but it is beyond apparent he carries a heavy heart.
“What are my fears?” He looked up at the sky, and his lip twitched as he pondered my question, then looked back at me. “Hurting people…like letting people I care about down. Stuff like that.”
The progress of Nina + Jakes’ relationship is slow but you will enjoy the journey. And boy if the sexual tension doesn’t make you the reader sexually frustrated as well. The attraction between these two is as intensely steamy as being shut in a sauna for 30mins too long. Yet the steam falters out some when Jake’s secret reveals itself.
I will not reveal what his secret is, but trust me you will have your suspicions but.... WRONG. I did not expect the curve ball Ms. Ward throws. You will have moments where you doubt the type of guy Jake is, you will want to smack him upside the head “Are you insane, no that’s not acceptable to ask of Nina” but at the same time you will feel for him. He has been through so much in his 24yrs of life. He genuinely has the best intentions at heart it’s just sometimes he doesn’t always take the best course of action.
Book boyfriends beware, Jake Green doesn't just attract your eyes but steals your heart. Some may think a hero that writes poems, makes origami notes and gives a charm bracelet is a pansy but I assure you ladies you will never question Jake’s masculinity. His mouth can wet your panties while also melting your heart.

Ms. Ward has created a story that will make you feel like an emotional yo-yo. Emotions that race through your mind are Unprepared, Understanding, Unforgivable, Unhinging and most certainly Unbelievably Amazing!!
Side Note: Skylar's character is the epitome of a supporting character. Her presence is brief but when present she leaves an impression as well as a mark on your heart. Can’t wait for her and Mitch’s story!

~ Review by Tori

Penelope Ward grew up in Boston with five older brothers. She spent most of her twenties as a television news anchor, before switching to a more family friendly career.

Penelope lives for reading books in the new adult genre, coffee and hanging out with her friends and family on weekends.

She is the proud mother of a beautiful 9-year-old girl with autism (the inspiration for the character Callie in Gemini) and a 7-year-old boy, both of whom are the lights of her life.

Penelope, her husband and kids reside in Rhode Island.
